Armadillo and Fernando

the baptism of Fernando!

a view from the balcony of our house. Vamo rriva ´guay.

If you want to know what spend a lot of time doing in the nights. Verifying with all of the district leaders that we have in the zone. Its a good experience to be able to speak with them every night, to be able to hear of all the miracles that are happening in the areas and be able to help them solve the problems that there are.

Fernando got baptized! It was a great baptismal service.... in the end. We had to fight to get it to happen. What had happened is that we got to our church to fill the font with water (and it was absolutely freezing that day) and it turned out that there was no gas in the chruch to be able to turn on the water heater. So the tough choice we had to make was to baptize him in the cold water in our font (and wrisk him having a heart attack there in the water) or to mtry and move the service to the other church building in Las Piedras (here in Uruguay every church has its own baptismal font). In the end we decided to change the service to the other building where the water would be warm and had to spend the whole day running around the streets of Las Piedras arrainging everything for the baptism, and even even though it was a little complicatedin the end he got baptized in nice warm water.

Another cool thing that happened this week is that i got to do an exchange with Elder Cannon who was my companion in the MTC. It was really fun to work together again (and also on our 1 year in Urugauy aniversery) and be able to see eachothers progress and remember all of hte good times that we had in the MTC.

challenge of the week, hearing all about the Olympics and not being able to see any of it, but thats OK.

Food of the week -  Armadillo. more like chicken than cow. It kind of freaked me out to walk into the house and see a whole armadillo sitting there on the table. Wish I had brought my camera.

Also, this could possibly be my last week in Las Piedras. The changes come next sunday, so I will have to keep you all updated on what happens.

I know that the church of Jesus Christ has been restored, and that Tomas Monson is the living prophet of God. I have been loving reading in the General Conference talks and pondering over the words of the apostles. Their lives and testimonies are my example.

Letter home:

This week was a really good week. It seems like after a ton of time working super hard, our hard work is paying off. First of all, our investigator Fernando, who has always been progressing had a change of heart, and now is progressing super fast. He went to church and everything this sunday and we announced the baptism for this Friday. So we are really excited for him.

Also, we found a new investigator called Rosabel. She is a reference from her cousin who got baptized in the other side of Uruguay. She is really awesome, and immediately accepted to participate in the Gospel. We are going to have to do a lot of planning for her because the thing that complicates her is that she only has 1 leg and lives about 3 miles away from the chruch, so we are going to have to plan and help her to make it to the chruch. This is an example of  working with Recent Converts to share the gospel. I love working with recent converts a ton because they have testimonys super strong. They are like children, still have not been corrupted by ´these are things that work and these are things that dont work´ attitude of some of the older members. Their faith is so strong... what the, my recent convert Hector just passed by. He says hi to all my greengo family. haha . I love the mission.

Well, we are working hard and beeing 100% obedient.

Pray really hard so that Fernando can be able to overcome the opposition that will surely come.
Till next week, Elder Wilson.

Moroni 9:6 is a verse that I have been useing a lot lately to help myself overcome the opposition that is here in the mission. Maybe it can help some of you guys too.
Next week i promise to send pictures. Sorry, its just that I havent taken any recently to send!

cinnamon rolls and a missionary blog

Hermana Davidson and Hermana Hill. 2 Sr missionaries that are serving here with us. We are working a lot with them here in Las Piedras because we are working to qualify the stake as a stake again, by activating members and everything. They made us cinnimon rolls this week, which was awesome because I havnt had one in more than a year!

The family Abreu. I didnt have any interesting other pictures to send so I sent this one. The 2 young ones are some active members in the ward that help us out with the Obra Misional.

This has been a good week. We have been working to death to find investigators!! And we are doing a work to search out less active members that are on the ward list of members but who nobody knows to see if they still live there or have died or moved or whatever. We had to search out 400 names! Its been a long, time consuming job, but we have been able to find some good investigators through the part-member families that still live there.

I love our new president. He is a way great leader, and I am really excited to be working with him for the rest of my mission.

Plese pray for us that we can find out those who the Lord is preparing. I love the mission and hope that it never ends. Love you all.

missionuruguaymontevideo.blogspot.com is a blog page that the President Armstrong has created. It has pictures and  few updates (I think... never been there to check it out.)

winter in Uruguay (and eating ostrich)

Yep, its cold now. But I´m loving it.

This week we have been working super hard. We are passing through a ´dry spot´in our area, o sea, we don't have anybody who is progresing really fast to get baptized. For example, our hearts were broken this sunday when none of the 7 investigators who we planned to come to church made it to the Sacrament meeting. But thats OK, You've gotta have a broken heart if you want the blessings of the lord. Its been a real challange for us, but we are confident in the promise of the prophet Tomas Monson that he gave us in the General Conference:

"Haz lo justo, es lo mejor,
Deja el resto al Señor"
(I dont know what it is in English, but it means something like just do your best and the Lord will do the rest... )

I know that as we keep on working with all our ´heart, might, mind and strength´ the lord will be able to fufill his part, and we will meet our goal. We set the goal before the Lord of 4 baptism this month, I know that he will give us the miricles to be able to meet it.

Food of the week, Austrice (I dont remember how to spell that one in english, but the big bird) meat. Its more like beef than chicken.

Thanks for all of your prayers. I love everybody.

So, now I am here with my new companin Elder Sevilla! Even though we have only been together for a week, i can already tell that he is going to be one of my favorite companions that I have ever had. He knows how to work hard! which is great. we are seeing a ton of miricles... He is from an all memberf family of Honduras (like half of my old companions ), I really like hondoreños because they are really humble. This is going to be an awesome cambio I can tell.

One really big miricle that we areseeing. is that we are teaching Fernando. We found him just in the street and talked to him, and he invited us to come into his house (which is one of the most humble houses I have known on the mission). He came to church with us this week, and now is preparing himself to be baptized in a couple weeks. I learned from him that the Lord really favors the people that are humble and broken hearted. Like when alma and amulek were teaching the poor people. The contrast was evedent because after leaving the awesome charla with Fernando, we went to his next door neighbor´s house to do contacts, and he was a SUPER hard hearted person from a different religion, who even though he knew a lot of things about god and the scriptures, really was not open to the spirit. And I could really feel the difference.

Oficcialy President Armstrong is here now. Manana I will be abke to see him because the liders de zona have a meeting with him in the mission house. I am really excited to get to know him, and I know that he will be a great president.

Oh, its cold. Pray for my investigadores!
